Happy 64th Independence Day!! Jai Hind!!!

It’s good to see my friend Vishwesha back to writing blogs. He is a great writer with lots of good ideas and today he wrote some random thoughts on India’s Independence day and movie Peepli Live. Expect some more posts from him in coming days which I will link on my blog from time to time. Here is an excerpt from his blog-post:

Random thoughts on 64th Independence Day

Happy 64th Independence Day to India.

1. What is independence? According to Gandhi,

“Independence begins at the bottom… A society must be built in which every village has to be self sustained and capable of managing its own affairs… It will be trained and prepared to perish in the attempt to defend itself against any onslaught from without… This does not exclude dependence on and willing help from neighbours or from the world. It will be a free and voluntary play of mutual forces… In this structure composed of innumerable villages, there will be ever widening, never ascending circles. Growth will not be a pyramid with the apex sustained by the bottom. But it will be an oceanic circle whose center will be the individual. Therefore the outermost circumference will not wield power to crush the inner circle but will give strength to all within and derive its own strength from it.”

2. Yesterday I saw Peepli Live. A beautiful, refreshing movie of satire on many aspects of India, particularly the electronic media and politics. It brilliantly portrays how media is only interested in showing/making up sensational news, but not in highlighting issues.

It shows faces of faceless. The main character rarely speaks. But the message is loud and clear. Its to the point. Its humorous. Almost flawless.

Go watch it!
